I am strong, I am invincible, I probably could leap a tall building at a single bound! Shite! I am going to be 70 this year and I feel better today than I have for at least ... well at least a few days ago.
I love my mornings, I love my water drinks (no matter how much I have to pee after drinking them) and I love most of all the sharing that Lawrence and I do while we make our green juice every morning. I usually do the grunt work - scrubbing all the veggies - and he presides over the juicer, the roar of the spinning noise, is music to my ears now! He feeds it kale, brussel sprouts, lettuce, cucumber, zucchini, apple. pear, ginger, lemon, parsley, sometimes collard greens, and/or broccoli stems. And the lovely measuring cup fills up with the goodness that only raw veggies can provide.
We usually drink it right away. I like to make it cold by adding a couple of ice cubes as well. My sister, who also juices says she has to drink hers right out of a dark bottle because she doesn't like the colour, but it sure turns me on, I'll tell you! I think about it as getting right back to the way people used to eat, before big stoves, microwaves, freezers etc.
Even my Mom and Dad did not eat this way - I have to go back much further in my ancestry. Women living in a small village at the top of the Gran Sasso range went out and chose the freshest veggies in their gardens and picked dandelion leaves for their salads, herbs from the field to make their food taste zestier - they knew what they were doing ...

Who said you have to be 20 to feel good?
What was your New Year's Resolution? Bet you can't even remember what it is anymore ... Lawrence and I made a new year's resolution this year that is probably the best one we have ever made. We decided to go on a detox, not for a week, but for a month!
Our usual meal in the morning consists of orange juice, cereal, toast and sometimes a softboiled egg, all washed down with at least 1 cup of coffee. Hey, one of the great things about being retired is that you get to enjoy a leisurely breakfast and read the morning paper.
This detox diet went like this ... Drink two big glasses of water (at least 20 oz.) and make ourselves a big glass of green juice to go along with the water. Yikes! Are we crazy? Oh we would still get to read the newspaper but with no coffee to soothe nerves that are jangled after reading how horrible things are in the world.
Our daughter, Carissa said that she wanted to give it a try because she has decided to change her style of eating completely and this was going to start her on the right road. Then she told us that this detox would last a month! "Yeah right," we said, "Well, we can try it for at least a week and see what happens then.
We agreed to join her and discovered the goodness of making your own veggie juice. We bought a juicer online - good service, no shipping charges from Amazon - this wonderful machine came in the big box right to our door.
